Traditions

We are learning that most traditions are associated with a special occasion and that there are a wide variety of cultures and traditions that coexist in Canada. Please help us investigate family histories and traditions to allow us to further appreciate how these contribute to and enrich Canadian society.

Mr. DeLuca
Amherstburg, Ontario
Christmas Eve
Each Christmas eve we have a special dinner at Mrs. DeLuca's Nonna's house where we open gifts and have a traditional Italian fish dinner. Nonna (Grandma) is now 92 years old and continues to prepare most of the meal on her own!
Mrs.Betteridge

Windsor, ON

Summer

At the end of each summer vacation at the cottage, the height of my children are measured on the cottage door frame -a family tradition for over 65 years. The old door frame from the previous cottage been incorporated into the new cottage so we can always be reminded of the tradition!
Mrs.Evans
Lasalle, ON
Holidays
Getting together with family is very important to us. We make every holiday occasion special by traveling to be with family or have family come visit us. Dinners are usually potluck so everyone gets involved. The kids especially like to visit with their cousins!
Mrs. Sulaiman
LaSalle, ON
Birthdays
Every year, for Noah and Ryan's birthday, I bake a double layer chocolate cake for each of the boys. This year they decorated the cakes themselves. It's something we all look forward to every year!
Mrs.LaFontaine
LaSalle,ON
Holidays
Every year at Christmas (our favourite time of the year), we look forward to decorating the Christmas Tree. We begin our evening trimming the tree. Then we order Chinese food and try to eat with chop sticks. We get better each year!
We end the evening with Christmas movies and a campout in front of the Christmas Tree. It is so nice to fall asleep with the room all aglow!
